As a regular tutor for the prestigious Faber Academy, Shelley has delivered sessions since 2013 (five-day ‘Fiction Boosters’, Short Story courses and the renowned Six Month Write a Novel course). For details about upcoming Faber courses, see NEWS AND EVENTS.
FIRST NOVEL WORKSHOPS
These workshop series are directed at reluctant, nervous or lonely first-time novelists in need of a kick-start. Or those who believe they have a novel in them but lack the knowledge or courage to begin. Or perhaps writers who have attempted a novel and lost steam.
In weekly two-hour sessions, Shelley offers practical advice as well as a warm, supportive and creative environment. The sessions includes instruction on such aspects of writing as characterisation and plot, as well as intensive focusing on work in progress. Each group is strictly limited to eight participants, which allows for close individual attention. Contact Shelley or watch NEWS AND EVENTS for information about upcoming courses.
SKYROS WRITERS’ LAB
Since 2011 Shelley has led summer fiction workshops for Skyros Writers’ Lab. In a relaxing village environment on a balmy Greek Island, she offers technical help and encouragement to new novelists and/or those needing inspiration and tools to develop their writing projects.
GUARDIAN MASTERCLASSES
Shelley has delivered successful Guardian Masterclasses on THE ART OF FICTION and WRITING YOUR FIRST NOVEL. She has also published two Guardian Masterclass 60-minute ebooks – see BOOKS page for details.
WORK-IN-PROGRESS SURGERIES
These are regular three-hour sessions in which more experienced writers, published or unpublished, meet to engage with issues that arise during the writing process, under Shelley’s careful and nurturing supervision. In addition to receiving in-depth critical feedback on their work, writers are encouraged to engage in collaborative editing of the work of their peers. All writing is circulated before each session and the number of participants is strictly limited to ten. Contact Shelley for more information.
WRITING IN THE WORKPLACE

She has also delivered in-house creative writing courses for employees at City law firms. Contact Shelley for more information about how she can help your employees to write with more clarity, coherence and creativity.
